Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association Foundation, Inc.
The Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association Scholarship Foundation, Inc. was established in 2001 to provide scholarships to deserving young women attending an institution of higher learning who have an interest in golf or golfing activities. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of integrity, character, leadership, academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, civic or volunteer programs and financial need without regard to race, religious belief or national origin.
Under the leadership of the WMGA in 2012, the Board of Trustees of the Foundation changed the name to the WMGA Foundation, Inc. The Foundation continues to award scholarships, and also supports a wide range of activities to further the broader mission of growing participation and interest in women’s and junior golf.
With the financial support from the Hal and Ruth Launders Charitable Trust, the Foundation supports “Girls to the Tee”, a free clinic to junior girls in conjunction with PGA professionals. The clinic fosters friendships among the participants, identifies juniors with special talent, and teaches basics and love of the game. Since 2011, the Foundation has also instituted a Fellowship Program awarding WMGA memberships to qualified juniors who do not belong to our member clubs.
Our two major sources of funding are our annual Golf Classic and individual contributions. In addition, some member clubs contribute to the Foundation by holding their own “Foundation Days”. The Foundation is planning other programs to strengthen its endowment.
The Foundation is extremely grateful for the generous support previously given by so many of the WMGA members and local golf organizations. Thank you for all you do for the game of golf and your interest in the WMGA.
